Survivor Sucess at
Emmaus House
Since we opened our doors on October 23, 2006, for those seeking shelter and safety from violence, we have assisted over 70 women and 100 children. Many of the survivors who have come to Emmaus House have been successful in finding housing, employment, educational opportunities, mental health couseling, and most importantly, self-empowerment during their stay with us. It is truly inspiring to see the transition women are able to achieve when they are free from abuse, and Emmaus House is proud to be able to aid in that transition.
But the women say it best themselves; the following statements were taken from random exit-surveys that women complete upon checking out of Emmaus House:
- Staff was there to help me thru the most difficult time of my life. Thank you, thank you, thank you! And I hope to come
back to do volunteer work.
- Emmaus House cared about my mental state, cared about my welfare, my safety and myself. Thank you
so much for helping me with all the years of garbage I carried, getting my self-esteem, dignity and my own mind.
- Thank you very much
for opening my eyes to another way of thinking.
- All the staff individually has strengths in all areas of social work. The group
of women that arrived when I came here set a family cooperation and close sharing relationships. No one ever argued or limited
each other’s space.
- I want to say so many things. Thanks for being my rock. You are an inspiration to me. I will
be as strong as you someday. No wait. I am strong. Thank you for our little talks. I have learned so much
from you and am so pleased to call you my friend. I will miss you, but your words will always be with me. Thank you! Thank
you!
