Why do we need Emmaus House?
According to the San Benito County Victim Witness Assistance Program, over 350 women are physically abused each year in San Benito County. Law enforcement receive more calls for domestic violence than for any other need.
Inadequate alternatives often leave victims of domestic violence in abusive situations. San Benito County has had an essential need for a domestic violence shelter for women and children.
Thanks to the many community businesses and individuals who have given so generously of their time, resources and efforts, our facility is complete and we opened our doors on October 23, 2006.
Emmaus House is to provide a safe harbor for women and their children seeking immediate relief from a threatening situation. In a secure and child-friendly environment, trained and nurturing staff supports and assists a woman with her immediate concerns for safety, shelter, food and clothing. Emmaus House also has on-going resources and access to community networks providing opportunities for women in a time of transition.
A safe gateway for a woman's journey
