About Us

Our Mission Statement:
Our mission is to provide a safe gateway for a woman's journey.

Our Vision Statement:
Emmaus House is to provide a safe harbor for women and their children seeking immediate relief from a threatening situation. In a secure and child-friendly environment, trained and nurturing staff support and assist a woman with her immediate concerns for safety, shelter, food and clothing. Emmaus House also has on-going resources and access to community networks providing opportunities for women in a time of transition.

Why do we need Emmaus House?
According to the San Benito County Victim Witness Assistance Program, over 350 women are physically abused each year in San Benito County. Law enforcement receives more calls about domestic violence than for any other need. Per San Benito County Community Assessment on Sexual Violence Survey 2018, 67% of respondents stated they witnessed domestic violence..
Inadequate alternatives often leave victims of domestic violence in abusive situations. San Benito County has had an essential need for a domestic violence shelter for women and children.

From October 23, 2006 to May 2022, Emmaus House was able to serve 1965 clients: 865 Women and 1100 Children, the majority under the age of 5.

Thank you to the many individuals, community businesses, churches and foundations who have given so generously of their time, resources and efforts. Without you we would not be able to provide shelter, service and assistance to the many women and children in search of an alternative to violence in their lives. You truly make a difference!
